“Wenn auch die Zeit nun alles abverlangte fühlte ich, es musste so sein, die Farce bekam wieder ein neues Gesicht verpasst.
Ohne Umtausch über die Grenze zu fliehen war kein Thema, es war keine mehr vorhanden ausser die meines leuchtenden Körpers.
Wenn von der Seele zu sprechen ist, dann in diesem Moment, sie barst im Spalt der Glückseligkeit als sei sie dem Turm der Heillosen Phantasmen entsprungen.
Meine Hände erschienen durch die Fahrlässigkeit das zu formen wofür ich geschaffen worden war, ein Zusammenhang im Belanglosen fristen des Daseins erkoren und zu brennen.
Wie Schleim beklommen kamen Gedanken daher wie Klümpchen in vergorener Milch, ständig zerrend an der Objektivität. Das Mondlicht reichte zur Genüge zu erkennen wie es tropfte, der Saft des Fensters Aussicht. Das schlaffe Gesicht der “Wahrheit” ringt nach Luft und atmet schwer wie dieser Drache es tat in den träumen die ich auf der Insel hatte. Ich sah es verblassen wie ein Ballon der bis zum platzen aufgeblasen wird, der Knall brachte die Uhr auf Position. Es fing an zu schmerzen, so wie die Arme der jeden Sekunde aufs Herz drückte schäumte mein Mund und ich fiel vor Glück in den gierigen Schlund Hybris der Hoffnung. Verhalten hatte auch medizinische Wirkung gezeigt so sollte es sich heraushelfen, jedes mal wenn es brannte!
Um etwas anderes als eben nur selbstgerechte Zigaretten zu rauchen ging ich Richtung Bahnhofsviertel um ein Cappuccino zu trinken irgendwo liess ich mich nieder zu schreiben, einen Satz nach dem anderen, Poco a Poco.
Die Gerüche verpassten mir einen Moment und entsagen in der Musik die erklang was mir genommen wurde als ich lief um den Bus zu kriegen.
Während ich die Gegend als leer empfand merkte ich meine Augenhöhle hatte den Ton gegeben in der Hoffnung ich würde es nicht merken.
Einfach so drehte ich mich um und rannte davon mit dem Pfeil im Schritt.
Die Kisten wogen zu viel, aber alles sollte rein und kompakt sein, so staubte es wie auf Grossmutters Dachboden, Wind war intakt mit feiner Frisur erschienen. Er hatte eine Stimme, und er würde sie auch benutzen!
Eine Pille zur Vernunft und illegalem Ego war erniedrigt zu würgen.
Mir schien als hätten alle in die Hose gepisst, hier direkt in den Bus, auf die Sitze, warm stickig klebrig, eine Station noch…
Ich war zu früh angekommen, ich suchte mir einen Platz zum Portieren der Gedanken an die Transpiration, ‘lass da mal brennen und keine Sonne wächst im Gras mehr’. Wie auch immer, nach einer nicht allzu langen Zeit bewegte ich mich entschlossen dennoch entspannt zur Lokalität die mir den Genuss versprach heilig gesprochen zu werden. Die Augen in etwa 30 Meter Entfernung leuchteten Orange im Wechsel und riefen zum tanzen.
Eine Gestalt nur erkennbar als buckeligen huschte über die Strasse, eine Szene zum ergiessen erinnerte an mehr. Empfangen wurde ich von freundlichen aber sichtlich müden Gefährten eben mit diesem Tier angekommen, das Warten, hatte Sinn gemacht, ein Reh gebrochenen Beines humpelnd entsprang meiner Seele, ich war sofort absorbiert.” – undRess Béton

Crush!!!: Water Raquette/ Crush!!! are Mark Browne, Sonic Pleasure and Ian Smith. The group utilises an array of found and home-made sound making devices combined with more traditional instruments within an improvisational context. Sonic Pleasure is famed for her unique crafting of sound from bricks and masonry, reducing much of her instrumentation to dust by the end of a concert with an orange haze clearly visible over the performance area. Some of the bricks will be transported from her home, others will be collected near the venue. She also plays flute. Mark Browne plays piranha and castrato saxophones (sopranino “the small one that bites” and soprano “the Farinelli pastiche”), broken glass, clarinet, earth, burnt piano and bones. On this piece his instrumentation was restricted to water, game calls, tenor recorder, cymbals and gongs. Ian Smith plays brass in an extraordinary and creative manner. For this venture the aim was to exploit the use of water: splashing in water, changing the pitch of wind and percussion by submerging the instruments in water and generally making wet sounds. The members of the group individually created their contributions (with Sonic P living in Manchester, Ian in London, Mark in Aylesbury this has become a necessary activity for ongoing interaction). Rose Bolton and Anthony Donovan: A piece formed of the body of Bolton’s ‘Mind Soul Psyche’ and re-mixed, retreated and added-to by Donovan, ‘Sui Generis; is the first collaboration by this pair / Based in Toronto, Rose Bolton creates music for documentary films. She is also well established as a composer who creates and envisions new sounds in the areas of classical and electronic music. She has written and produced full scores for four hour-long television documentaries for the CBC main network: Who’s Sorry Now?, The Disappearing In 2011 she was commissioned by the Canadian Music Centre to create a sound and video installation for Toronto’s 2011 Nuit Blanche. “Ein Geschenk der Fantasie. Doch war der Unterschied keiner mehr. Womit kann ich Begeisterung aufbauen wenn die Lust schon tot ist? Es fing an zu Fragen, der Regen brachte den Wind zum heulen und die Gestirne aus dem Takt. Blitze schimmerten, die Furcht wie aus Entfernung bedrohlich nah. Da nur unter dem Bett die Klarheit stattfand, schien es wie es einst diese liebten “Surreal” es zu nennen. Beschmiert verstand ich zu malen. In Anbetracht der Anzahl einer Discount Größe verfielen die Stoffe zu unmöglichen Gelächter, wir bekamen den Löffel nicht von der Zunge! Ich gab mir noch nicht mal Mühe, es war gar nicht einer Synopse Wert.

Die Hexen!
Er erwartete ihren Ruf, sie riefen seinen Namen, küss die Flamme!
Ein Berg!
Die Herzen wollen gehen, die Seele kniet beängstigt vor der Liebe
“Sie rufen mich, tanze auf den Mondstrahlen, und lache über die Sünde”

Ein Rat wurde berufen, und verstummte über Ahnungslosigkeit einer Tatsache die die Berge liebte in Dunkelheit der Sünde offenbart.
Tatsächlich wie ein Strudel, ohne die Uhrzeit weiter zu begutachten, war es im Handgelenk des Vertrauens zum Argwohn gekommen und verteilte unverzeihliche Schläge des Lebens in Rage gebracht durch Liebesentzug.
Freud(‘) hätte seine gehabt!
Ich schrie wie am Spiess nach zweifelhaften Tod im Suff der Tatsache gefangen.
Der Aufzug hielt einen für Trachten bezogen, aber es war nur die Impulsion einer wohlverdienten Einbildung im “Dress” der Zeit ohne Scham!
Du Pritsche! Als Miller noch lebte.
Nun ein Quark von zermalmenden Zähnen geplagter Körper in Flammen des Verlustes.
Das Gold in der Scheisse sind unsere Zähne!

Ich sehe Sterne nun endlich einen Weg zum Unsinn weisend. Du nennst mich vorher als Du Namen findest nachher die meine Sünde beschreiben und beklemmst die Nabelschnur der Kreativität.

Es ist wie ‘Honig und Salz’-
denke einfach nie darüber nach, die Komponente erfolgt von ganz alleine.
Deren überlassen die Fliessen auch wenn geweiht dem “Untergang” den alle Welt sich wünscht, “‘DEN’ & DEIN dramatischen Tod”!”

Bob Meanza - ‘Three Diamond Ohms’

Three Diamond Ohms is a collection of original compositions made for a vintage CRB transistor organ from the 70s. The lure emanating from this big, old and somewhat obsolete instrument inspired arcane sound combinations, in the tradition of the experimental 70s (Wendy Carlos, Progressive Rock), but also with references to the big names of organ history (Olivier Messiaen, for example).
Though the pieces have multi tracked parts, the score is ideally playable live by two organists. Every sound comes from the organ, which has also piano presets, and a nice spring reverb. Most imperfections are left uncorrected, since the limits of the instruments are definitely a central feature: for the composer, for the player, and for the listener. – Bob Meanza – ‘Three Diamond Ohms’

Suara Sampah (“Sound Waste” in Indonesian) is a 6 track work by the spanish sound artist and producer Alejandro Remeseiro. Suara Sampah is a sound artwork designed to be carefully listened with headphones; Industrial soundscapes and thrilling drones in a sound that evokes the lack of communication between human beings, the restless seeking of love, and the absurd loneliness of the contemporary world. The intention of the use of repetitive patterns of sound, low frequencies and glitches is to make the listener a bit nervous…but anyway everyone can take these sounds to use as a mirror and try to look at themselves. Maybe the image that this mirror returns to us is not very clear, nice, or even lovely … but, after all, these tracks are just sounds that, in fact, are completely harmless. As ever, the project grows with each survey – with many old friends coming back time after time and many new friends joining us. The work presented here is nothing short of outstanding – as good as anything out there. Thank you all for taking part! Please explore, please spread the word and please enjoy :)

Collaboration has been a hallmark of the project more or less from the beginning, some four years ago. But we are especially struck this time by the numbers of people working together, in different combinations, and by the collaborative projects and concepts being played out within the survey. This is exactly what Classwar Karaoke is all about.

We humbly dedicate this survey to the memory of the late great Lol Coxhill, who died 9th July. Lol was a true progenitor of the experimental scene. He inspired and enthralled many of us, and his legacy is huge. We urge you to explore the work of this pioneer. You will spot Lol in 213TV’s film, Nein McCue here, and Lol featured in a trio, with Kay Grant and Olie Brice, on 0018 survey back in May – listen / download here.

All tracks at their inception were purely spontaneous, made without plans and sometimes based on a loose idea. Several of the sound poems, miniature storms, unknown languages and backgrounds to imaginary scenes were made entirely from voice layers and/or minimally processed computer tones. Other instruments were keyboard, flute, surface percussion, and an electric razor. There has been some editing and composition from raw materials. At times extensive editing was needed when combining tracks due to volume differences.

Songs like ‘Wrong House’ were made to encourage meaningful accidents and paranoiac listening. I spoke only made up, non-English into the mic but after random edits, one can hear among other things ‘you’re in the wrong house…wrong house…earth house…’ I like the implications of unconscious speech assembling itself from scrambled whirlpools of words. My intentions were not strictly ‘musical’ but rather inspired by surrealist black humor, experimental improvisation, and emotional release. It was a challenge to see what I could do without using many instruments. Multi-tracking sound software provided the ability to build duets, trios and quartets with myself.

Walking, Parade, Wrong House, Slow Motion Imitation Fan, Polymorphous Rose Bonnet, Phase a Couple Rooms, and As Do I are the tracks made from voice, with the exceptions of Wrong House which also features tapping, and Walking which also features manipulated tones and frequencies. Roast Lettuce and Wrong House appeared on Peak the Source Volume 1 and Class War Karaoke Survey 0018.

On October 3rd, 2010, Anton Mobin, Joséphine Muller and Ian Linter met at the ASP studios for a real challenge of 5 hours long live streaming transmission, broadcasted simultaneously by two webradios: Strange Frequencies Channel and KKWNE. The full concept is called “Bande Sonore Occasionnelle pour Aprés-midi Aléatoire”. From that session Anton Mobin and Ian Linter did two edits to be released on two different labels: suRRism-Phonoethics in Germany and Kultur[Terrorismus] in Austria, thanks to Jaan Patterson and Susanne Hafenscher. This is part two: “Bande Sonore Aléatoire”

Empathy Kills, Abnot Kraz, or La Main Traumatique, with Ian Linter. Improvised and minimalist electronic manipulations or electro acoustic abstractions, these are some manifestations of this OFF/BRUMA netlabel and ASP co-founder.

Ian Linter is an original member of the Portuguese underground collective produções Ganza, co-founder of OFF/BRUMA netlabel, and also many other sonic entities like the non-stop webradio Strange Frequencies Channel, under the label ASP. His creations are electro-organic immediatism in any possible structure through a real-time feedback series of necessary events, and have been expressed since the early 90′s on distinct anti-aesthetics with names like OLoF NiNe, ACT9, Airf’Auga, Massacre Divino, La Main Traumatique with Joséphine Muller, Plasma, RTP, among others…

Ambient Fabric: I do it my way…
Bloem: Triple fragmentation is a chemical experiment for tapes and saxophone baritone. All sequences were played live by Bloem (Anton Mobin on tapes and Maurice Charles JJ on saxophone baritone) at Le Café Central in Brussels on December 14th, 2010. All sounds are cutter, assembled and edited by Anton Mobin at the Maïzing Studio Paris, specially for Classwar Karaoke. “Triple fragmentation” makes at the same time reference to the complex result of a series of incomprehensible chemical operation, as well as to a sound experiment under influence of Belgian beers  which the content in alcohol is strongly upper to the average ! Cagey House: The doctor and I were drinking one night, in a part of town that we didn’t usually frequent. As always, we were trying to keep a low profile, but the doctor, with his white lab coat and his stethoscope, always attracted some attention. That night the attention was all of the unwelcome kind. It had been coming for a while, but that was the night I knew for sure—humor was out, and serious was back in style. As we sat at a corner table, discussing the situation, a dart whizzed by and smacked into the wall right by our heads. We turned, and another sailed in and stuck in the table, right by the drinks. Over at the dartboard, a kid—who looked very familiar—was laughing. He was with two mummies–all wrapped up but also wearing shades, and hats, and cheap suits. There seemed to be a cloud of dust hanging around them. The Doctor got up to have a word, and I figured that was that. But when he came back, he looked shaken He gulped his drink without bothering to sit back down and pointed at the door. In the parking lot he said to me, “That kid with the mummies, he’s got a time machine, and he’s going to go back to the fifties, and mess around, and fix it so that I never happen.” I told him that was crazy. People wouldn’t stand for it. He was the heir, the best and brightest. But from that night on, I saw less and less of him. Until it got to be like he had never happened. Then a few years later–a few long years–I was in the basement doing laundry, and the phone rang. I picked it up, and could hear the unmistakable sound of a good time in progress—muffled laughter, glasses clinking, a cash register’s ring. And there was music—weird, good music—loud guitars and horns working through some eerie mode. Then, just before the line went dead, I heard the Doctor’s voice, “Where have you been, where have you been, where have you been?” And I’ve been wondering ever since.

Clutter: Lanternhouse II (7:54) (Shaun Blezard) / Lanternhouse II is an electro-acoustic improvisation using found sounds from Lanternhouse in Ulverston as part of Shaun Blezard’s artist residency there under the project name Cumbria Remixed. Cumbria Remixed is a sound project using digital technologies to investigate and remix the soundscape of Cumbria. It will look at creating a lively dialogue between old and new, young and old through field recordings of Cumbrian environments, and Cumbrian people’s tales, tunes, stories and songs. I will use digital technology to remix and remould our environment and our stories to create new soundscapes and songs. Cumbria remixed is a project by Shaun Blezard for Lanternhouse. Shaun Blezard has been writing music about and of Cumbria for over 10 years, working with artists, poets, musicians, dancers and the community as well as incorporating sounds of the local environment into his work. He is interested in working with every day new technologies such as mobile phones and games consoles as well as standard digital technologies to create music and sound art. His current live set up includes iPhone, Nintendo DS, laptop and effects pedals. He is interested in areas of music where genres meet and finding ways to incorporate this melding of influences back into his music. Crash Duo: “Inside a movement – The mechanism to rock the intrusion” / Classwar Karaoke 0013 / Acoustic pressure due to sound waves, probably more than 50 explosions.
Three parts can be distinguished in this acoustic pressure from bubble waves with a frequency of *Hz. Crash Duo produce sound in air by imposing a rapid motion to the interface. Bubble traveling in the uppermost *m, its strong vibration, overpressure generates the main event with a frequency around *Hz. Kinematic waves of frequency around *Hz are the main source of this crash sound. Graham Dunning: My working practice deals with temporality, memory and narrative through sound, performance and installation. I am interested in people’s discarded memories,  in photographs, sound recordings or objects, and the function of archiving. Found home recordings from the recent past feature in my work investigating notions of the artifact and implied narrative. Experimentation is important in my work, and my practice is often informed by scientific experimental protocol
Gurdonark: In a time when information is more available and more important than ever, access to information is being treated as a commodity. Among the potential casualties of this change is the public library. In Library, the music explores the quiet complexities of this common but un-commonplace institution. The music was created with the Sawcutter 2.0 software synthesizer, using simple samples I created. I used two Bolivian flutes, a tarkas and a ponquillo, as well as a pewter cup and a circular kitchen bowl, to create the sound samples used in this song. I believe in self-education, in upward mobility through learning, and in closing the educational gap between rich and poor through libraries and schools. The image is a view of the surrounding mountains from the rooftop of the Salt Lake City, Utah public library.

John Hyatt: John is a polymath and has a long history of international exhibitions and performances as a painter, designer, musician, printmaker, author and sculptor. As well as continuing a prolific career as an artist and musician, John is currently Director of the research and postgraduate centre, MIRIAD (the Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art and Design), at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. In 2010, John exhibited in the UK, Australia, China, Japan, and India. The music world will know John as the lead singer with Leeds’ 80s’ legendary post-punk band, The Three Johns. Noise Research and Richard Knight: Richard Knight is a sonic/computational artist, usually performing with digital equipment. Incursions have established him as a practitioner of the no-input mixer, a subvertedwhich allows analogue feedback to be harnessed in an often precise and diverse manner. The performance for EOVI will see Richard utilise two no-input mixers, in an ongoing collaboration with Rodrigo Constanzo. Other relevant projects include the electroacoustic/jazz duo, ‘Pesticide Organica’; no-input techno project ‘Closed Circuit’ and experimental/electronica ‘Underbaud’. Noise Research is the Alter Ego of sound artists / musician Ian Simpson. Ian Simpson has worked in experimental music for many years and has material released on Electronic Musik, aReW, Casual Seizures, Bivouac, A.M.P recs, Knife in the Toaster and EMP. He works with improving quartet Id of Mobius (also on Clinical Archives), ambient project Bacillus, electronica duo Fonik and Krautrock Electronic droners Aht-n. Visual artist / film maker Adam Mufti has recently used music by Bacillus as part of a film soundtrack. This hyper-realized metaphor is on one level depicting sci-fi imagery for affect to grossly exaggerate the obvious; pointing out mans lack of understanding for the untapped regions in the human mind, the likes of which we sadly will not see come into fruition in our own lifetime. Static frequencies permeate the air waves that surround our minds, blocking free flowing thought, increasing the need for the mind to filter through elaborate defense mechanisms which are counter productive to the growth of the human mind yet necessary for mans sanity and survival. These machinations have become a slightly more sophisticated version of our primal instincts.  One can only conclude the only way to evolve is to isolate the mind from the negative side effects of day to day living including all counter productive persons within that sphere and stimulate our minds whenever possible in place of all negative human contact.
